First response (the wet day)
- Electrics off if water is near the board or the shop’s cellar lights.
- Do not send a tanker onto a permit street without checking whether a bay exists. Many Street Lane side streets will not take a tanker at 8am.
- Pump to a combined drain on the plot if the invert allows; do not empty a shop cellar onto the pavement.
- Photograph the hatch, the party wall, and the high-water line. Those photos belong to this property, not to an Alwoodley album.
- This visit is still not a Type C install. It is a first response.
If the water is a burst rising main, that is a plumber. Waterproofing cellar walls will not fix a pipe.
What a Street Lane downpour usually does here
Moortown Corner sits at the A61 / A6120 junction. Surface water and combined-sewer surcharge show up in pavement hatches and in cellars under the parades. Through-semis off Street Lane more often see tracking at the shared wall than a metre of flood. Meanwood-edge gritstone can seep without a “flood” at all.
We use cellar flooding as a supporting idea. We do not pretend every wet floor is a flood. Type C in a one-room party-wall cellar where a sump can discharge with no rear yard
Full waterproofing is the second job

Can you pump a shop cellar without closing Street Lane?
Usually yes, if we can discharge on the plot and park legally. Closing the parade is not first-response default.
Is a wet party wall in a through-semi a “flooded cellar”?
Not always. Tracking and a puddle at the joint are still a waterproofing survey. Standing water over the floor is the flood case.
Should we run dehumidifiers and skip Type C?
Dehumidifiers after a pump-out help stock. They do not replace a drained cavity if groundwater or surcharge will return.
